In Lithuania the proposed INGENES project was designed to continue and expand previous research of the Department of Human and Medical Genetics in the area of congenital neurodevelopmental disorders. Most of the implementers of the INGENES project successfully participated in the previous studies, including CHERISH and UNIGENE leaded by prof. V. Kučinskas. Young researchers of the proposed research have already obtained significant scientific results, which were the basis for their PhD thesis and scientific publications. During the mentioned projects a cohort of near 400 individuals with syndromic and non-syndromic ID and extended families with more than one affected individual have been investigated using most advanced techniques. Functional genomics approaches have been implemented by Swiss partners for the investigation of candidate genes for ID in the UNIGENE project and contributed to further scientific investigations in Lithuania as young researchers have been trained in the field of functional genomics.
